Singing in the morning may not be as easy as belting out at night. For Julie Anne San Jose, it doesn't matter. She can kill any song any time of the day.
Asia's Pop Sweetheart just finished her press conference when she faced the bloggers at 12 noon. She was beaming with excitement to talk about her upcoming concert at The Theatre at Solaire on July 20, dubbed Julie Sings The Divas. Before she answered questions, she let out a vocal sample. Nope, not some sweet love song. She sang the ever vocally-challenging "Never Enough" from the musical film 'The Greatest Showman.'
She did not disappoint, hitting notes so flawlessly like like it was your normal karaoke song.
Julie said that, although she had performed numerous shows live and on television, her concert will offer a lot of firsts for her. For one, this is her first time to perform just songs from the divas. No dances and rapping (although she can). Just her and the timeless female hits that most of us secretly sing in the shower. Even if she is known for radio-friendly, younger-sounding songs from her records, she will take on favorite diva songs from decades before.
Her musical director Danny Tan is already challenging her with titles she has not performed before. Songs like "I Am Changing from the musical "The Dreamgirls" and "I Am Telling You, I'm Not Going" which is also from the same material. Aren't these two titles enough to excite us?
To give you all a sample of what her concert will be like, here is Julie Anne San Jose, breezing through "Never Enough" at 12 noon.
