Similar to previous editions of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), awarded movies often gets a boost in the box office.
Last year, First Best Picture ‘Firefly’ and Second Best Picture GomBurZa were lagging behind the ticket sales during the first three days of the festival. Only to finish in the top four after the awards were given. The same is happening with ‘Green Bones’ this year which started with less than 60 cinemas nationwide. In the last weekend of the MMFF, it is now being shown in more than 180 cinemas.
The Best Picture win is also a back-to-win for studio GMA Pictures who also produced last year’s Firefly. This is a stunning repeat of Muro-Ami and Jose Rizal, who were also produced by the same studio in 1998 and 1999 and also won back-to-back Best Picture honors.
Aside from taking home the Best Film honor among this year’s list of ten good films, ‘Green Bones’ also won the Best Actor trophy for Dennis Trillo, Best Supporting Actor for Ruru Madrid, Best Child Performer for Sienna Stevens, Best Screenplay for national artist Ricky Lee and Angeli Atienza and Best Cinematography for Neil Daza.
