Double Twisting, Double Back is the most daring Cinema One Original yet

Perhaps the most talked about film at this year's Cinema One Originals, 'Double Twisting, Double Back' can credit most of the attention from its two lead actors, the intriguing title and the attention-grabbing social media promotion. But those are not what the movie is for. One, it brings you to the depressing plight of our gymnasts. Two, it's a tell-all on how people with psychological disorder deal with the stress every day.

If the movie trailers that you see appear to be too much for you, watching the movie is more uncomfortable. Even the lead stars, Tony Labrusca and Joem Bascon, who we watched the film with, have squirming moments in huge scenes.

'Double Twisting, Double Back' is the story of a struggling gymnast, Badger (Labrusca) who is suffering from mental sickness. The psychological struggle stems from confusion in choosing gymnastics against his rewarding career, a dysfunctional relationship with his family, and sexual addiction that's giving him hallucinations.

Tony Labrusca and Joem Bascon join members of the press and some VIPs at the 'Double Twisting, Double Back's advance screening held in Manila House at The Fort Bonifacio.

This material maybe overwhelming for newbie Tony Labrusca, but the young actor showed enough promise with a decent performance. Joem Bascon is a standout though. You would think you have seen enough from this actor but Joem showed a lot more here.

The film has imposed gigantic challenges, not only for its cast and to its audience, but to its very own framework. You would love how it fights for its full climax. The type that it doesn't leave anything to the imagination. All the sensitive scenes were not only suggestive, it was presented and dramatized in full color.

And why not? For so long we have seen movies that tackle mental illness in an often hilarious approach, sometimes musical, sometimes romantic but often incomplete, verging on dishonest. While restraint is beautiful, sometimes you need a material that takes you to all the ups and downs as clear and as straightforward as possible. For those who take satisfaction in exploring a different world no matter how vulgar the visual gets, 'Double Twisting, Double Back' is for you.

Watch our interview with Tony Labrusca and Joem Bascon, who by the way, labeled the movie as "sobrang crazy.
