WATCH! Catriona Gray shares how her National Costume lantern did not light up

Sure, Miss Universe Philippines Catriona Gray did what she wanted - to wear a national costume that will represent the Philippines, from Luzon to Mindanao. She also received the social media praise as expected even if there were a few hiccups in her "Luzviminda" national costume.

She revealed on her Instagram Live Tuesday morning that the 'parol', which is the highlight of costume, is supposed to light up. But the moment she was on stage, the switch somehow found a way to not cooperate.

"There were instances during rehearsals that it did not turn on. I tried to turn on again and it did turn on and it turned on twice in a row so I left it. Just before I went on stage I tried to turn it on again and again and it wasn't working. I am not sure if the wires just got moved during the transport to Thailand...", the Philippine delegate said.

Over 90 contestants from all around the world are touring Thailand for pre-pageant activities in the world's grandest beauty pageant which will culminate with a televised coronation night on December 16 (December 17 in the morning local time).

Designed by Jearson Demavivas, the costume's accessories represented Mindanao while her body suit depict the "colors" of Luzon. The lantern behind her represents Luzon with Pampanga which is known to be the Lantern Capital of the Philippines. Catriona is one of the very few contestants who was highlighted by Vogue Thailand.

"I'm really, really sad about it because I would have love to show the full effect of what my team had put their time and effort to. I just wanted you guys to know that it was a little bit of a technical mishap", Gray continued.

She also revealed that she was supposed to carry the huge lantern but the weight was too much for her. Her team decided to add wheels. "The wheels we've prepared for were for a flat floor; a tile or a wooden floor, or just a smooth floor. But we just didn't expect that the floor for the national costume show would be carpeted." Pageant insiders notice Catriona's difficulty on stage in presenting her national costume.

Despite the unexpected challenges, Catriona received nothing but full support from her fans. The Miss Universe frontrunner is now preparing for the preliminaries this coming Thursday. After the NatCos, now the fans are buzzing over the evening gown that Catriona will wear during the preliminaries. Miss Philippines hinted that it would still be something that is Filipino inspired.

Twenty contestants will be called during the semi-finals at the newly reformatted pageant finals on December 16. Five delegates will be chosen each from the Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific and Europe. Another five wildcards will also advance. The finalists will go straight to a 15-second opening statement which will be the judges' only basis of deciding the Top 10.

Unlike before where the 15 or 16 finalists have competed in the swimsuit segment, only 10 will proceed to both the swimsuit and the evening gown contests this time. After which, the top 5 will be named where the top 3 will be picked based on a question and answer round. The 'Final Word' caps the competition before the two runners-up and the new Miss Universe will be announced.
