Portraying nobody else but themselves, the cast led by Enrique Gil and Jane de Leon, explored the abandoned Xinglin Hospital in Taiwan, which was voted as the most haunted establishment not just in Taiwan but in all of Asia. Enrique and his friends went on a ‘ghost-hunting’ trip while live streamed on YouTube to attract viewers.
The series of scary events, as expected, happened in this single night of exploration. It could be one of those found footage movie style that has created its own following at the box office. ‘Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital’, however, stands out as it mounted its scenes pretty cohesively, with good performances from its cast, and a steady supply of jump scares that were neatly executed.
Enrique and Jane lead the cast but providing comical respite were support MJ Lastimosa and the naturally funny Raf Pineda. Their moments add more entertainment and a breather as you eagerly anticipates what will happen next.
This is Enrique’s second foray into movie-producing after the release of his comedy film ‘Big Bird’ in the middle of 2024. Although it received mixed reviews from movie fans, Enrique continues with his experimentation - this time with horror. The TV favorite will also do a TV series in 2025 that he has conceptualized himself.
The 90-minute total run time of the movie is packed and horror fans will leave the theater satisfied. Although there are tiny narrative issues, should you choose to be scared this holiday, ‘Strange Frequencies’ will give you all the fun in the cinemas.
