JM de Guzman and Beauty Gonzalez star in drama-romance movie ‘Paquil’


Local moviegoers are provided a dramatic option for their trip to the cinemas this Valentine’s season. ‘Paquil’, a love story that also explores faith and the importance of heritage, is being told in the big screen by JM de Guzman and Beauty Gonzalez. 

Both actors are experienced in portraying many dramatic roles both on television and in the movies. Though probably mostly remembered in his hit rom-com appearance in ‘That Thing Called Tadhana’, JM de Guzman is also known in heavy drama TV series like ‘Linlang’ and ‘All of Me’, and in movies like ‘On The Job’ and ‘Kung Paano Siya Nawala’. 

Beauty Gonzalez, on her part, also appeared in movies like ‘In My Mother’s Skin’ and ‘Abandoned’ and in soap operas including ‘Kadenang Ginto’ and ‘Pusong Ligaw’. 

In Paquil, Beauty Gonzalez is Christina. She is an actress who find herself returning to her roots in the historic town of Pakil. She is finds the need to restore Pakil’s fading tradition of Komedya. Christina is a devout devotee of Our Lady of Turumba, the patron saint of Pakil town. 

She meets Paolo (JM de Guzman). Paolo is a talented yet troubled musician who is trying to get by from his own personal struggles. Because of their mutual desire to redeem themselves, Christina and Paolo create a powerful bond. While working together to revive Komedya, they also find healing and hope within themselves. 

Joining de Guzman and Gonzales are Yayo Aguila, VJ Mendoza, Arnold Reyes, Lou Veloso, Kych Yamamoto, and Lilet Esteban. The movie is directed by Lemuel Lorca (Intoy Shokoy, Siglo ng Kalinga). 

Apart from the good performances of JM de Guzman and Beauty Gonzalez, ‘Paquil’ will entertain audiences with its beautiful imagery, and the beautiful convergence between art, faith and culture.
