Here are some photos from the "My Love From The Star" presscon. But the headline isn't about how beautifully dressed the stars of GMA 7's newest primetime offering were. The headline is about the leading man, new comer Gil Cuerva, and his conviction to entertain the audience not just with his looks but with his acting chops.
For the half Spanish, half Filipino actor, who will be playing Matteo Domingo in the Filipino adaptation of the Korean series, he means business. "Ito tuloy-tuloy na talaga. I'm ready to become an actor. More than anything, more than (being) an artista, more than (being) a celebrity, I am ready to become an actor and to become great at that."
Gil is a top runway model but has shifted his focus ever since snatching of the most sought-after roles in primetime TV. "So yun, na i-give up ko na. But from time to time, since I have a lot of friends who are photographers and who would love to do photoshoots. Wala, you know, still... just to feel that I am still modelling."
Jennylyn Mercado's newest leading man admitted that he has turned his back on a lot of modelling opportunities to fulfill his acting dreams. "In a way nanghinayang ako. I tell this to everyone. More than the actual modelling, it is the opportunity to travel the world. I could have been in Hong Kong for two months and in Thailand for three months just to widen your horizon and experience different cultures. I just have to sacrifice. But as I have mentioned, this is completely worth it. I wouldn't have this any other way and I am just thankful to be here."
Gil says he has a lot to prove but he is willing to accept the challenge. "Masama kasi pag ang reputation mo is sikat ka, guwapo ka pero ang pangit mong umarte diba? 'Yan ang gusto kong iwasan. I wanna make good in acting."
Cuerva is joined by MMFF Best Actress Jennylyn Mercado who will play the bubbly Steffi Chavez. With Jennylyn and Gil are Christian Bautista, Jackie Rice, Gabby Eigenmann, Renz Fernandez, Migo Adecer, Annalyn Barro, and Glydel Mercado.
The show will premiere on May 29 on GMA primetime.
