Siglo Ng Kalinga movie tells the story of Filipino nurses; to be created and portrayed by real nurses

The time for the nurses' stories to be told has come, in a movie created by nurses, with characters portrayed by nurses themselves, and a story that revolves around the daily life and struggles of nurses.

The Philippines is one, if not the leading supplier of professional nurses globally yet nurses' situation here in the country remains to be a crisis. A movie that so honestly reveals their challenges could somehow put the truth into the consciousness of more people and perhaps tickle our policy makers.

The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) celebrates it centennial anniversary with the announcement of "Siglo ng Kalinga", a movie about nurses to be produced by Dr. Carl E. Balita, a broadcaster, entrepreneur and himself a registred nurse.

"Siglo Ng Kalinga" is a film revolving around nurses' stories inspired by the life of PNA Founder Anastacia Giron Tupas. The Ilocana became the first ever Filipina to become a chief nurse at the Philippine General Hospital. She lived a life in full service which inspired new generations of nurses.

Balita aims to change the public's perspective of nurses by highlighting their sacrifices on the big screen. To stay true to this objective, he opened a casting call exclusive for nurses who could be part of the film as actors. By being portrayed by the nurses themselves, the movie will be provide an accurate depiction of the noble profession of nursing, Balita said.

To direct the movie is Lemuel Lorca, the same man behind the lens in award-winning projects like Intoy Shokoy ng Kalye Marino (2012) and Ned's project (2016) among others. Archie del Mundo joins as the film's screenplay writer.

The PNA signed the Memorandum of Understanding wtih Balita last October 9, Sunday, to officially launch the movie. "Siglo Ng Kalinga" is expected to hit the big screen by summer of 2023.
