There are showbiz careers that are steady they last for years. Rhian Ramos is among those gifted with such consistent presence in the entertainment industry that she has not stepped out from the limelight for a long 19 years. And looks like she is ready to go for more.
It was in her opening episode’s powerful performance of the 2024 Netflix war drama ‘Pulang Araw’ which caught the attention of content-loving netizens. “Underrated” they say of Rhian. That the actress deserves more central and huge roles.
At the press conference of her upcoming romance movie ‘Meg and Ryan’ opposite the also talented JC Santos, Rhian got teary-eyed when she heard such praise. “I prefer to be underrated. I wouldn’t ever wanna hear that I am overrated. That would break me,” she responds.
For Rhian, hearing the underrated tag is very positive, a sign that the audience is yearning for more, to see her more. “The work that I do or the extra work that I do to understand my characters, that’s really part of who I am. It’s not to get a certain title or to get (to) a certain level of fame,” she says. “If there’s anything that I wanna be known for is that I am empathetic and that I understand my characters no matter who they may be,” she adds.
Two months ago, she made headlines when Encantadia returned to primetime via ‘Sang’re’ where she is portraying a landmark role as Kera Mitena or the ice princess. In that crowded, big-budgeted ensemble, Rhian’s performance stands out.
Then she goes for the cute and something more relatable to the modern audience in ‘Meg and Ryan’, Director Catherine Camarillo’s tale of a flourishing love affair post one-night stand. Rhian finds accuracy in representing every woman that is Meg: romantic, unsure but thoughtful, emotional but strong.
While happily in a relationship with former Congressman and entrepreneur Sam Versoza, something which looks locked in and headed to the wedding aisle, Rhian looks forward to more of show business, no matter how uncertain it can be. And as she looks for more exciting roles to portray, the audience will be there with her.
‘Meg & Ryan’ will be in cinemas nationwide starting August 6. With Rhian and JC Santos are Cedrick Juan, Ces Quesada, Cris Villanueva and Jeff Gaitan. Introducing here is popular TikTok content creator Poca Okinawa and Alison Black.
