Barcelona Earns 23-M, Biggest Opening Day Sales in 2016

If the numbers are accurate, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla's latest movie "Barcelona: A Love Untold" edged out Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards's debut film "Imagine You And Me" for biggest opening day sales by a local movie in 2016. 

Star Cinema top executive Mico del Rosario shared on Instagram the first day sales of the latest KathNiel movie which opened on Wednesday, September 14. The movie reportedly grossed 23 million, the biggest amongst the 10 blockbusters of the year so far. 

AlDub's Imagine You And Me, which opened last July 13, held the record for two months after earning 21.5 million on its opening day. 

Star Cinema announced that "Barcelona" was screened in 240 cinemas nationwide on debut. Meanwhile, the AlDub movie which was produced by APT, opened in 230 movie houses nationwide as reported by PEP.ph. 

Here are the 10 biggest opening day box office results for 2016 so far with the lucrative Metro Manila Film Festival still to come. 

1. Barcelona: A Love Untold (Kathryn Bernardo, Daniel Padilla)- 23 Million

2. Imagine You And Me (Maine Mendoza, Alden Richards) - 21.5 Million 

3. Just The 3 Of Us (Jennylyn Mercado, John Lloyd Cruz) - 16 Million

4. Everything About Her (Vilma Santos, Angel Locsin, Xian Lim) - 15 Million  

4. This Time (Nadine Lustre, James Reid) - 15 Million 

6. The Achy Breaky Hearts (Jodi Sta. Maria, Richard Yap, Ian Veneracion) - 14 Million 

7. Love Me Tomorrow (Dawn Zulueta, Piolo Pascual, Colleen Garcia) - 13 Million 

8. How To Be Yours (Bea Alonzo, Gerald Anderson) - 10 Million 

9. Always Be My Maybe (Arci Munoz, Gerald Anderson) - 8 Million 

10. Love Is Blind (Kiray Celis, Derek Ramsay, Solenn Heussaff) - 5 Million
