The last surviving model of Team Philippines was eliminated from the fourth season of Asia's Next Top Model. It is for the first time that the country is not represented in the finale of the reality show.
Julian Flores scored 40 points from the judges and the challenge round at episode 11, just a hairline away from third placer Tawan Kedkong of Thailand who got 41.5 points. Tawan eventually joined Indonesia's Patricia Gunawan and South Korea's Sang In Kim in the Top 3 to compete for the finale next week.
Julian's departure from the show marks for the first time that there is no Filipina in the finale. In season 1, Stephanie Retuya finished as runner-up to winner Jessica Amornkuldilok of Thailand while Jodilly Pendre finished second after a very controversial judging in Season 2. Malaysian Sheena Liam won that season which was hosted for the first time by her country. In season 3, meanwhile, Monika Sta. Maria also came very close to winning the title but eventually finished as first runner-up to Ayu Gani of Indonesia.
Julian Flores was nearly eliminated twice in the previous episodes before bouncing back and winning Best Photo in one episode. Julian's inconsistency was always questioned by the judges who eventually eliminated here off the competition after the Top 4 episode.
Three Filipinas competed for this season, the most number of participants from a single country. That advantage didn't work though as the Philippine participants went out of the show one after the other. Miss World First Runner-up turned runway model Gwen Ruais was eliminated at the 4th episode. It was the same episode that heavy favorite Alaiza Malinao decided to quit the competition.
South Korean Sang In is the front-runner leading to the finale. She is the first every Korean to make it at the top 3. Sang In won three episodes and she is up for a tight competition against Indonesian Patricia Gunawan, who also won 3 best photos. Tawan got one best photo.
Good luck to the remaining participants. As for the Philippines, looks like we have to wait again for another season.
The finale of Asia's Next Top Model will be aired on Wednesday, June 1 at 9 PM, on Star World.
